TMZ broke the news on September 7 that rapper Mac Miller, who split with ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande earlier this year, died in his San Fernando Valley home at the age of 26.
The cause of death hasn’t been confirmed yet but reports claim that the rapper died from an apparent drug overdose.
Gone Too Soon
Born as Malcolm James McCormick, rapper Mac Miller, 26, recently released his latest album ‘Swimming’. His tour for the newest album was due in a month when news broke that he had passed away. Swimming is Miller’s fifth studio album.
In a statement confirming his death, the rapper’s family told the Rolling Stone magazine that he was extremely adored by his family, fans and friends.
The media was requested to respect the family’s privacy and not speculate any further until the cause of death in confirmed. Another statement by the Los Angeles medical examiner also confirmed that Mac Milled was found dead in his home on late morning of September 7.
Authorities were called at 11:51 a.m but he had passed away by the time help arrived.
Stars Pay Tribute
The news of his death triggered a flood of heartfelt tributes from fellow musicians and celebrities. The social media was overflowing with messages of respect and condolences for the rapper and his family.
Tom Corson, the COO of Warner Bros Records expressed his shock and sorrow upon hearing the tragic news. He said that Mac Miller was one of the most talented and inspiring artists who had touched the audiences’ souls with his music.
One of the first fellow musicians to pay tribute to Miller was Chance The Rapper. He wrote on Twitter that the news of his friend’s passing absolutely broke him. He added that the deceased rapper was one of the kindest people he knew and he had nothing but love and respect for him.
Shawn Mendes also paid tribute through an emotional Twitter post calling Mac Miller one of the greatest hip-hop artists ever. Wiz Khalifa also offered his condolences to the deceased’s friends and family for their grave loss. Lil Skies also tweeted, ‘RIP Mac Miller.’ He added that the 26-year-old will never be forgotten.
In his last Twitter post, Miller announced to his 9 million followers that he couldn’t wait to go on tour. The rapper has a history of substance abuse and has been very open about his struggles in the past.
