Ben Affleck has officially entered rehab for the third time after his estranged wife Jennifer Garner decided to stage an intervention. The news was first reported by TMZ a few hours ago and has since been taken up by multiple news outlets across the country.
En-Route to Rehab
According to TMZ, Jennifer arrived unannounced at Ben’s home on Pacific Palisades yesterday afternoon to have a sit-down chat about his declining health. But Jen didn’t have to beg her estranged husband to get help. Sources say that Ben Affleck knows that needs help. He was receptive to his wife’s offer to drive him to rehab.
Jen was at Ben’s house for a good few hours before the two finally left for rehab around 6 p.m. Pacific Time. On their way to the facility the two made a quick pit stop at Jack in the Box to order food. Jennifer grabbed the order from the drive-thu window and passed it along to a disheveled Ben Affleck sitting in the back seat.
Although it isn’t clear which rehab facility Affleck has joined, many sources are saying that is within the L.A. County. According to reports, Ben fell off the wagon after splitting with then-girlfriend and producer of Saturday Night Live, Lindsay Shookus.
The Justice League actor split from his estranged wife, Jennifer Garner in 2015 after 10 years of marriage. The cause of the split was the family’s 28-year-old nanny, Christine Ouzounian, who Affleck was caught cheating with.
After it was revealed that Affleck and Lindsay had broken up, sources close to the actor said that he had relapsed into old drinking habits. The actor’s health was getting progressively worse with each passing day until the tipping point two days ago.
It was apparently Jen who saw her estranged husband getting a box full of liquor and beer from a delivery guy. She then decided that it was time for an intervention.
TMZ claims that the Batman star is already checked into a live-in rehab facility in L.A. He will be spending the next few months there.
This isn’t the first time Ben Affleck’s alcohol addiction has wound him up in rehab. The actor has undergone treatment twice before, the first time in 2001 and then recently in 2017. But it hasn’t taken long for him to fall off the wagon.
The actor’s history with alcoholism has been no secret. In March 2017, he openly admitted on social media that he had successfully finished AA treatment. He said that he did it for his kids so that they know that there is no shame in seeking help when you need it.
Affleck added that he wanted to be the best father to his children and be a source of inspiration for anyone suffering from a similar problem by being strong enough to take the first step towards recovery.
